What is The Sunshine Volunteers Organization?
The Sunshine Volunteers Organization is a registered non-profit offering ethical volunteering programmes in Ghana, combining community work, cultural immersion, and travel experiences.

How long is the volunteer program?
The length of your volunteering experience is completely up to you! We tailor your program for the amount of time you are with us. If you decide you want to extend your trip, this is also usually possible providing we have availability.

Who can join your programmes?
We welcome school groups, universities, youth organisations, and individual volunteers aged 13+.

Can I volunteer as a solo individual?
Of course! Some volunteers choose to travel with friends whilst others travel alone. Either way is great fun and a fantastic opportunity to meet new people!

What qualifications do I need to do the volunteer projects?
None! You do not need any qualifications to take part in any one of our programs. If you have medical training you may be able to further support in our medical program though, but, this is not necessary!

Do you offer support before arriving?
Yes! Our in-country and international team will do all that we can to support you through the entirety of your volunteering journey. Any questions, no matter how small, will always be answered!

What is the food like?
We offer a wide range of different meals on rotation. Each day volunteers will be provided with breakfast. This includes staples such as: Cereals, Tea, Coffee, Toast, Peanut Butter, Jam, Oatmeal, Milk, Fresh Fruit - and on rotation - Smoothies, Meat Pies, French Toast, Pancakes, Chicken Sausages, Muffins, Yoghurts, Hash Browns, Juices and Doughnuts. Dinner is also provided daily, this will include a fun mix of local dishes as well as western style food including Coconut Chicken Curry, Tortilla Wrap, Red Red, Fried Rice and Chicken, Waakye and Jollof Rice. Do you cater for dietary requirements?
We try our very best to cater for Vegans, Vegetarians, Allergies and to meet your dietary requirements. Please inform us at time of registration if you have any.

Where are your programmes based?
Our main programmes are based in Kumasi, with additional travel and excursions across different regions of Ghana.

Do I need previous volunteering experience?
No prior experience is required—just a positive attitude and willingness to contribute.

Is the programme safe for students?
Yes. Safety is a top priority and Ghana is an extremely safe country. We follow strict safeguarding and risk management procedures.

What safeguarding measures are in place?
We have clear safeguarding policies, trained staff, supervised placements, and strict guidelines for working with children and vulnerable groups.

Where will participants stay?
Volunteers stay in our dedicated volunteer house in Kumasi, with hotels used during travel and excursions.

Will I have free time?
Yes. Programmes are structured to include free time, reflection, and opportunities to explore.

Do participants need vaccinations?
Yes, a yellow fever vaccination is required for travel to Ghana. We advise consulting a travel clinic before departure regarding additional vaccinations.

Is a visa required for Ghana?
Most travellers will need a visa. We provide guidance to support you through the application process.

What level of support is provided on the ground?
Our in-country team provides continuous support, supervision, and guidance throughout your stay.

How do you ensure ethical volunteering?
Our organisation was locally established by Ghanaians. We work closely with local communities to support existing initiatives, ensuring volunteers add value without replacing local jobs.
